Delete your account

You can delete your North Star account whenever you like. Either in the app (Settings → Account → Delete my account) or by filling in the form on this page. We’ll wipe your account, journal, prayers, AI history, and plan progress within 30 days — and email you when it’s done.

What gets deleted

When your account is deleted we remove the lot from our active systems:

Your auth record — email, hashed password, and account ID in Supabase Auth.
Journal entries — every entry you’ve written.
Prayer entries — your prayer list, answers, and notes.
AI conversation history — prompts and responses for devotional, ask AI, prayer help, sermon, and journey features.
Plan and journey progress — where you are in any reading plan, your streak, completion history.
Attached images — anything you uploaded into a journal entry, removed from Supabase Storage.

Backups are rotated out within 30 days, so even the database backup copies are gone within that window.

What we may keep (and why)

A small amount of data may be retained, only where the law requires it or where it’s already anonymous:

Anonymised crash data — if Expo collected a crash report from your device, it doesn’t identify you and we don’t link it back. We don’t need to delete it because it isn’t about you any more.
Financial / tax records — if you’ve ever paid for North Star, UK tax law requires us to keep transaction records for six years. The record is an invoice number tied to a payment processor reference — not your journal or prayers.
A minimal deletion log — date, request reference, and the fact a deletion happened. Kept briefly for security and audit purposes.

That’s the lot. No marketing list, no analytics profile, no sneaky retention.

Two ways to delete your account

Option A

In the app

Fastest. Settings → Account → Delete my account. One tap, immediate, no waiting on us.

Requires the app installed and you’re signed in.

Option B

On the web

For when you’ve uninstalled the app, lost your device, or just prefer the web. Fill in the form below — we’ll delete your account within 30 days.

Required by UK GDPR. Confirmation email when it’s done.

Web deletion request

Pop your account email in below and we’ll start the deletion. You’ll get a confirmation email straight away, and a final email when it’s complete.

How long it takes

We aim to delete within a few working days. The legal maximum under UK GDPR is 30 days, and we’ll never go beyond that. You’ll get a final confirmation email as soon as the deletion is complete.

If something goes wrong

If the form fails or you don’t hear from us within a couple of days, email anthony@ajsoftwaredev.org from your account email and we’ll process it manually.

If you’re still not happy with how we’ve handled your request, you have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk. If you’re in the EU, your local Data Protection Authority is the equivalent.
