Bible Verses About Gratitude

Thankfulness shows up as an instruction more than a feeling in scripture — something practiced deliberately, in every circumstance, not only the easy ones.

1 Thessalonians 5:18

In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Not thanks for every thing, but thanks in every thing — a subtle but important distinction.

Psalm 100:4

Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

Thankfulness described as the way in, not an afterthought once you've arrived.

Philippians 4:6

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

Thanksgiving woven directly into prayer, even prayers made out of anxiety.

Colossians 3:15

And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.

Peace and thankfulness named together, almost as two sides of one habit.

Psalm 107:1

O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

The reason given for thanks isn't circumstance — it's character, which doesn't change.
