Fair Use Policy
The AI in North Star runs on Anthropic's Claude, which costs us per request. Fair-use limits keep the service sustainable for everyone.
Why we have limits
Every AI conversation in North Star is processed by Anthropic's Claude, which charges us per request. To keep the service sustainable and protect against automated abuse, all accounts have fair-use limits — even Premium. These limits are deliberately generous and most users will never reach them in everyday use.
7-day free trial
When you subscribe to Premium (monthly or annual) for the first time, your subscription begins with a 7-day free trial. Nothing is charged for those 7 days.
You can cancel any time before the trial ends from your device's subscription settings (App Store or Google Play). If you cancel before day 7:
- You will not be charged
- Your account moves to the Free tier
- You keep your journal entries, prayers, notes, highlights, and community posts
- Your account is not deleted — you can continue using North Star indefinitely on the free plan
If you don't cancel, the subscription auto-renews at the standard rate. The trial is offered once per Apple ID or Google account. Fair-use allowances during the trial are the same as a paid Premium subscription.
Free tier
You can use North Star without subscribing. Free use includes:
- One AI Bible chat per day (Ask tab)
- A daily devotional
- Three journal entries per day
- Full access to Bible reading, highlights, notes, the community prayer wall
- Journalling without AI feedback
- Human-written reading plans
- The first week of one discipleship pathway (a taster — lifetime)
The following are Premium only (including during the 7-day free trial):
- AI journal feedback and polish ("Let's Talk" mode)
- AI prayer generation in the Prayer tab
- The Sermon builder
- Weeks 2 onwards of every discipleship pathway
- Additional AI Bible chats beyond the daily one
Premium fair-use
Even on Premium there are reasonable per-day caps on AI features to protect against automated abuse. They are set well above ordinary use — if you hit them in normal use we want to know about it (send feedback). Caps reset at midnight in your local time zone.
What happens when you hit a limit
The action is paused until the cap resets, with a friendly message. Nothing you've already saved is affected — only further AI requests for the day.
Common questions
Q: Why is Claude not free? It's a paid API — every AI message costs us real money. Premium covers that for unlimited use.
Q: I think I hit a cap by mistake. Send feedback — we'll check the logs and lift it if it's a glitch.
Q: Can I see how much I've used? Not yet — usage display is on the roadmap.
