Privacy Policy
What we collect, how it's used, and how to delete it. In plain English.
Who we are
North Star is a Christian faith app designed to help you grow in your relationship with God through daily Scripture, journaling, prayer, and AI-assisted pastoral guidance. The app is operated as an independent personal project.
What data we collect
- Your name, email address, and password (stored as a secure hash) when you register
- Content you create in the app — journal entries, personal prayer requests, community prayer wall posts, notes, highlights, and discipleship progress
We do not collect location data, device identifiers, or analytics about how you use the app.
How we use your data
Your data is used only to provide the app's features:
- Delivering your devotional
- Responding to journal entries and prayers via the AI
- Showing your streaks and stats
- Personalising your discipleship pathway
We do not sell, share, or use your data for advertising.
The AI (Claude)
When you use Ask, Pastoral, Let's Talk, or auto-prayer features, the text you write is sent to Anthropic (the company behind Claude) to generate a response. Anthropic processes the request and returns the reply. Your text is not used to train their models.
Other private content (Bible notes, highlights, prayers you wrote yourself, regular journal entries you don't request feedback on) is never sent to the AI.
Where your data lives
Your data is stored on secure servers operated by us. Backups are encrypted. Only our small team has access, and only for support and maintenance.
Deleting your data
You can delete your entire account at any time from Profile → Delete account. This permanently removes:
- Your account, name, email
- Every journal entry, prayer, note, highlight
- Every community post you've made
There is no recovery after delete. We hold no copies.
Your rights
You can request a copy of your data, ask us to correct anything that's wrong, or ask us to delete it — by email to privacy@northstarbible.com or via Send feedback.
